Chocolate Chip Cookie School 1: History and Mysteries of the 10,000 Year Old Cookie

What if everything you learned in school related to the real world? Welcome to a fun curriculum that teaches “critical thinking through cookies.” We deconstruct America’s favorite cookie to get students aged 10+ thinking creatively about learning and life.

The 10,000 Year Old Cookie (1-3 hours) integrates subjects ranging from language to science to business, chemistry, food systems, economics, and of course cookie making.

Students journey through time to discover where chocolate chip cookie ingredients really came from through thousands of years of development, science, daring and experiments.

It may seem like a stretch to say that students from approx. 10 years and older up through adult will enjoy this, but it’s true!
(There are 5 modules totaling 5-10 hours of teaching… depending how deeply you go into discussion. Check out the full Chocolate Chip Cookie School bundle — at a great discount — if you’re doing a homeschool, after school or summer school program.)

TEACHING THIS CURRICULUM

  • This can be a solo exercise or a group activity, printable in black and white or color. It’s absolutely perfect for homeschool or after school / summer school programs.
  • Try filling out the exercises yourself. It’s fun, and you’ll be able to tailor the answers and discussion to your student and local area as well as better estimate the time to teach.
  • Throughout this module you’ll see exercises, questions, etc. for students. A 2-page teaching guide offers suggestions for discussion and “answers” although the program is perfect for light student research.
A Detective Log makes a fun tool for students to analyze what most or all of the ingredients have in common or other note-taking.
Following this module comes Incredible Cookie Inventions, which fills in blanks as to how the Toll House cookie was actually invented. Because after all, without baking tools, equipment and cookbooks, there would have been no cookie invention and revolution!
